What are porcelain veneers?
The porcelain veneer is an earthenware and artistic sheet that is located in the observable part of the tooth to change its appearance in terms of color, form, and intensity. They are opposed to and stick to teeth with immense aesthetic feelings, permit them to eat usually, and facilitate patients to get the ideal smile they forever required
Although there are several types of veneers, those of porcelain or ceramic have a thickness of 0.3 and 1.2 mm, which ensures comfort and a very natural appearance.
This type of teeth veneers is mainly requested thanks to its power and strength, unlike compound veneers; they do not mark or stain over time.
They are used in several cases:
- When it is necessary to cover interdental spaces
- Correct fractures or shapes of teeth
- To change the color of the enamel when it is no longer the desired one
- In case of permanent stains or stains
- In general, if you want to improve the beauty of the smile
Types of porcelain veneers explained by Buderim Park Dental
There are many types of porcelain veneers. Among them, two sub typologies are distinguished: the fine and extra-thin ones or the brand or laboratory that manufactures them.
Within the fine porcelain veneer, we find the so-called DaVinci and lumineers as trademarks. The DaVinci has great fame internationally.
Within the framework of the extra-thin porcelain veneer, at the Buderim Park Dental, we have three different types: The Lightveneers, DaVinci extra fine, and Lumineers. The former is characterized by excellent optical qualities of light reflection, as the name suggests, manufactured by a prestigious prosthetic. Extra-thin DaVinci is similar to Lumineers 2 but more resistant to fractures.
How is the treatment performed at Buderim Park Dental
During the first visit, in the first place, an evaluation is carried out to provide an option to the patient: the color and the desired shapes are evaluated together. Then, after the decision, the specialist prepares each of the teeth in which the porcelain veneers are placed. Said preparation consists of a dental carving with which a filing process slightly reduces the surface of the teeth.
With dental carving, it is possible to reduce the tooth enamel, to then compensate for the thickness of the veneers and so that they are not thick when placed. Next, provisional veneers are placed, which will then be changed to the final porcelain veneers.
Depending on the case and size of dental pieces, the possibility of placing the veneers with a minimum preparation of the tooth or without the need for dental wear will be studied.
Alternatives to porcelain veneer at Buderim Park Dental clinic
Depending on the aesthetic demand of the patient, the generic alternatives to porcelain veneer would include composite restorations, or orthodontic treatment to close diastema and straighten crooked teeth or teeth whitening.
